These dragons of the Rishi class are among the most intelligent and psychically talented of all the dragons though they still enjoy startling visitors with their fire breath. Many are old enough to remember when humans last visited the planet three hundred years ago, and it is not rare to meet a six hundred year old individual.

They are striped like tigers, have long serpentine bodies, heavy equine skulls and two impressive horns. They can breathe fire, levitate, move objects and communicate to each other through thoughts. When they enter a “big sleep” they can enter others dreams or use their inherit clairvoyance to co-inhabit others minds.

The Arcane dragons often deliberately live far apart from each other because they are so keenly attuned to hearing thoughts that “mental noise” can become overwhelming. Arcane dragons often gather in the mountains every few decades to mate or have children; after that period the naturally introverted creatures have had enough of the constant internal “mental noise” and must retreat to their lairs. From their lairs, often grottoes or multi-chambered dens in the sides of cliffs, they can still contact each other through their mental social network and use pools of water or glass orbs in the same manner as radio antennae to “boost signals”.

They enjoy the company of other dragon species and most sentient species for that matter. Though Arcanes tend to be introverted and not talkative at all they are good listeners, mentors and teachers. When someone shows interest they can go on for hours about their favorite subjects.

Being alone for long periods of time allows these dragons to become highly passionate and knowledgeable about many different fields. They become obsessive and study, write, read, everything they can about their chosen interest. Also, they collect obsessively, and are hoarders in the proper sense. Many become affixed to certain types of natural specimens such as feathers, rocks or shells and keep entire chambers of them. It goes without saying that such smart dragons tend to collect books and art pieces by the hundreds and thousands as well.

With their fire breath and human like hands, many Arcane dragons have become good metal workers and very often make armor and weapons for other dragons. They have created their own grand works of art and literature and due to their lifespans their magna opera tend to exceed those of smaller creatures in both scale and complexity.

They feel a strong pantheistic connection to nature and space and tend to see themselves as moving breathing extensions of the sacred spirit of the universe. This belief is projected on other thinking creatures whom they have an affinity for. Many of the older dragon folk have actually traveled through space using dimensional portals and made homes on other planets.
